Real-Time School Bus Tracking with GPS for Parents

South African school parents see exactly where the bus is on a live map, get a push notification before pickup, and stop guessing when their child will arrive. School admins plan routes, assign learners to stops, and run the whole transport operation from one platform.

How the GPS data flows

The bus driver runs the MyEncore driver app on a phone or tablet during the route. Location updates stream to the MyEncore platform every few seconds and fan out to every subscribed parent. No separate GPS hardware required, no per-vehicle SIM cards, no third-party transport software.

Pricing

Bus tracking is included free with every MyEncore subscription. No separate add-on, no per-vehicle fee, no parent subscription. The cost is just the standard platform pricing:

School sizeAnnual cost
Under 1000 learnersR50 per learner per year
1000+ learnersR27 in Year 1, escalating to R50 by Year 5 (see taper)
Many SA schools currently pay R3,000–R15,000 per month for standalone GPS-only bus tracking software. With MyEncore, bus tracking is a no-extra-cost feature of the school management platform you're already paying for.

What about safety?

Set-up

  1. School admin creates routes in the MyEncore web panel (typically one afternoon for a 10-route fleet).
  2. Drivers are added as users, assigned to their routes, and download the MyEncore driver app.
  3. Parents already on the MyEncore parent app see the bus tab appear automatically once their child is assigned to a stop.

Migration from another bus-tracking system is included in the MyEncore free onboarding. We import existing route and learner-stop data wherever you have it.

Frequently asked

Does this work if the driver doesn't have a smartphone?
The driver needs a phone or tablet with a SIM/data, but it doesn't need to be the latest hardware. The MyEncore driver app runs on Android 8+ and iOS 14+.
Will it drain the driver's phone battery?
The driver app uses adaptive GPS sampling — once stationary at a stop it reduces ping rate. A 4-hour morning route consumes roughly 15-20% battery on a 3-year-old phone.
Can after-school programmes and sports buses use it?
Yes — create as many routes as you need (regular routes, sports buses, excursion buses, late buses). Parents are notified about whichever routes their child is assigned to.
What if a learner gets on the wrong bus?
With NFC learner cards (NFC ID, also included), the driver can scan each learner as they board, and the system flags any mismatch immediately.

Why MyEncore for bus tracking

Standalone GPS tracking software gives you a map. MyEncore gives you a map plus the parent communication layer, the learner database, the attendance link (boarding scan = attendance mark), and one bill at the end of the month. One vendor. One support line. One platform.
